Annapurna Chalisa
Nourishment • Abundance • Motherly grace
40 verses to Maa Annapurna — goddess of food, sustenance and unfailing abundance, beloved consort of Shiva in Kashi.
About Annapurna Chalisa
Verses to Maa Annapurna — goddess of food, nourishment, and the bottomless storehouse of abundance.
Annapurna is the form Parvati took in Kashi when the world forgot the sacredness of food. Even Shiva, who needs nothing, took up a begging bowl and approached Her for alms — to remind us that the giver of grain is the giver of life. She wears red and gold, holds a jewelled bowl of rice in one hand and a golden ladle in the other, and Her smile is the smile of a mother who will never let Her children go hungry.
Reciting Annapurna Chalisa opens the door of the kitchen, the door of the wallet, and the door of the heart. It blesses every meal, dissolves the fear of lack, and turns ordinary food into prasad.
