Lakshmi Chalisa
Abundance • Grace • Prosperity
Goddess of wealth, fortune and beauty.
About Lakshmi Chalisa
Forty verses to Maa Lakshmi — goddess of abundance, grace, and the eight forms of prosperity (Ashta-Lakshmi).
Lakshmi Chalisa invites the goddess to settle into your home and stay. The verses describe her as the lotus-seated, golden-hued mother, consort of Vishnu, and dispenser of every kind of wealth: dhana (money), dhanya (food), vidya (knowledge), santana (children), gaja (strength), vijaya (victory), veerya (courage), and adi (primal). True Lakshmi worship is never about hoarding — it is about flow, generosity, and gratitude.
The Chalisa is the central practice on Diwali night, when families clean every corner of the home, light rows of diyas, and welcome her with sweets and silver. Friday evening is her weekly gateway.
Benefits of reciting Lakshmi Chalisa
- Stable wealth and ease in finances
- Removes Daridra (poverty consciousness) and Alakshmi (misfortune)
- Beauty, charm, and grace in personal presence
- Harmony in marriage and home
- Gratitude — the actual seed of all abundance
Fridays (Shukravar), Diwali, Sharad Purnima, Akshaya Tritiya. Evenings around sunset.
Clean the home thoroughly, light a diya with ghee, offer lotus or red flowers, kheer, and a coin or rice grains. Recite facing east or north — never with feet pointing toward the goddess.
